I love being in fandom. I love reading/listening to other people's opinions on the fandom and the character, which is why I was listening to this, but sometimes they're just SO WRONG! For example saying Shizuru is basically Edward, from Twilight. *GAGS* I mean yeah she's a BAMF, but she's also hella fucked up, or at least in Mai HiME she is; in Otome it's just some weird squicky relationship with Tomoe. And that fucked up bit, that's what I love about her character. There's so much material to work with there.

It's unfortunate that I didn't catch it live because I totally would have actually called in. Though, maybe it's better that I didn't because me squeeing about some of the suggested cracked-out pairings (Shizuru/Haruka, LOLZ) would have been a bad idea. That and I would have nailed them on the crappy name pronunciation. I mean really, Japanese isn't that hard to pronounce. Chinese, yes. Japanese, no.

Another issue I have with the episode is that [livejournal.com profile] allaine77 basically gets most of his fic info from FF.net. Any idiot over the age of fourteen knows that FF.net is the last place you go look for fic because 95% of the fic on FF.net is rubbish. And by "rubbish" I mean you want to burn your own eyes because it'd be less painful. I mean the 5% that's good, is REALLY GOOD. Like, epic amounts of awesome (hence the recs on my lj), but everything else is just ugh.

Dreiser, sameone did the whole Shizuru = Edward, also equated Yukino to Charlie Brown, which is HILARIOUS!

Dude, now I want to read Mai Kisaki or If There Be Thorns (it's STILL not finished! *SAD PANDA*) again. Or rewatch the series. Decisions decisions.

... er, yesterday was a good day. I woke up to find not one, not two, not three, but FOUR Mai HiME fic/fic updates waiting for me to read on my friends' list/email. Sweet. Ethnewinter updated Inter Nos; EA Simposon aka [livejournal.com profile] anamatics updated Passages; [livejournal.com profile] greywing posted a new fic called Orbiting; [livejournal.com profile] ange_sinistre posted a new fic called Narcissus. I loved all of them, but I do have to say that my favorite was Narcissus, primarily because it's a one shot based in the Mai Kisaki world, which if you're a Mai HiME fan and haven't read you really need to, but more on that later.

In non-fandom news I got my project two scores back for my OS class and I didn't bomb it as hard and I thought I would! Hooray me! I might actually have a chance at passing this class! Though we have another project due in a week and a half and my partner is a worthless sack of shit. Okay, maybe not completely worthless because she does write the design doc, but then when I'm coding she interrupts me with stupid questions about the nitty gritty details of the code that don't involve the project. *scream of frustration* What a fucking retard. Furthermore, when I explain something to her or say something I must then say that about ten more times in order for what I say to sink in to her thick skull. Grar! *headdesk* [/rant]

Other real life news: I got to go to the SC farmer's market today and got awesome honey! Crystal actually got the most awesome honey: poison oak honey. I only got raspberry honey. Both taste completely different. The poison oak honey has more of a honey flavor, and the raspberry honey has a sweet, tangy flavor. I'll be taking the latter with me to North Carolina so I can have yogurt, fruit, honey, and granola for breakfast, since presumably I'll have to be at work before 11AM. Damn I'm going to miss my current schedule. We also ended up getting dandelion greens, which kind of taste like arugula or at least is similarly bitter like arugula. Bleh.

Back to the fic I mentioned earlier: Mai Kisaki. I pimped it over at my DJ, but don't think I ever got around to doing so here. For those of you who haven't seen either Mai HiME or Mai Otome then you should go do that and return here after you've done so. (Go, run along and watch anime like good little children.) For those of you who have, this fic is fucking EPIC! There is no better word for this fic, aside from maybe awesome, fantastic and amazing. Now ideally, you should read The Kyoto Hunt, Antipode, The Calm before reading Mai Kisaki, but you could probably get away with just reading the fic notes on the author's page. [livejournal.com profile] ange_sinistre is a brilliant writer. She took Mai Kisaki in directions I couldn't even dream of. I laughed, I cried, I giggled maniacally. The only other Mai HiME fic that can stand up to Mai Kisaki is If There Be Thorns, which is still, sadly, incomplete. Inter Nos is on its way there but still hasn't quite reached that epic, OMGWTFBBQ stage. So go read the fic, you'll thank me later.
